As a San Diego wedding photographer, capturing this wedding at Horton Grand Hotel in San Diego was the perfect mix of timeless charm and modern romance. With its historic architecture, rich textures, and intimate atmosphere, the Horton Grand Hotel creates a setting that feels both elevated and full of character. From emotional moments tucked into quiet corners to bold, editorial portraits throughout the property, this wedding was a beautiful balance of artistry and genuine connection.
With Alicia getting ready in a room with all her girls, and Nick getting ready with the guys in rooms down the same hallway, it was a little tricky to make sure they didn’t see each other before the ceremony. Lots of coordinating with timing made this extremely easy. After both finished getting ready details, we perused the different corners of the hotel to find charming decor that added to the overall vibe. For the girls, we found a quiet corner with detailed vintage wallpaper, and for the guys, of course we went down to the bar for some “shots”.
The ceremony was in the open air pavilion of the hotel. Surrounded by the intimate atmosphere of the building, along with the trees that still made it feel like we were outdoors, it gave the right amount of privacy for our couple to feel at home with family and friends.
One of my favorite parts of any wedding is when we set time aside to get gorgeous editorial portraits. They take time to curate and set up, but we had plenty of time while guests were enjoying cocktail hour. We roamed the halls of the hotel, the bar area, and even went outside the the historic part of San Diego for photos. At the end, Alicia and Nick were happy to have some time away from the business of the wedding day.
For the reception, guests arrived to the transformed ceremony space, which was now two long family style tables. At each placement, there was a hand written note from Alicia and Nick thanking each individual guest for their presence. As the first dance concluded, the toasts began, with her dad starting, and there wasn’t a dry eye in the room afterwards. The perfect and intimate atmosphere for a wedding. After dinner and toasts were completed, then the party began, and the rest was history!
If you’re planning a Horton Gran Hotel wedding in San Diego and want something that feels real, bold, and fully immersive, I’d love to be a part of it.
